Changing their name may be an important step a transgender or nonbinary person takes to embrace their identity. But doing so is seldom easy and can create even more problems — particularly for your finances — after the fact, according to a recent white paper published by J.P. Morgan Wealth Management. Credit reports using deadnames — former names that individuals no longer use — are common and can result in credit discrimination against trans people, J.P. Morgan says. Getting approved to rent an apartment is just one of the issues that can arise out of inaccuracies on your credit report. Potential employers, utilities and phone companies and more may pull your credit report as part of a background check to hire you or establish services at your home.

Rich families across the globe are concerned about how to prepare their children to manage their wealth, but few are doing anything about it. According to a survey by JPMorgan, 69% of ultra-wealthy families cite succession planning as a top priority. That said, she attributed some of the reluctance to many of these family offices being formed within the past 10 or even five years. "Conversations about wealth can be challenging and, in our experience, families often have found it difficult to get started," she told Business Insider. Only 15% of family offices with at least $1 billion in assets kept heirs unaware compared with 27% for firms with $50 million to $500 million.

Instead, he focuses on a five-year time horizon to see how dividend growth is trending and pays attention to valuations. "You don't want to overpay for something just because it has an attractive history of increasing its dividend," Simpson said in an interview with CNBC. "The most important part is the dividend is increasing because the company has the earnings to support the dividend growth," Simpson noted. JPMorgan Chase has a five-year compound annual dividend growth rate of 10.3%, Simpson said. The last two names on his list have dividend yields under 1%, which means some investors may overlook them as dividend-payers.

There are plenty of stocks other than the so-called "Magnificent Seven" that are appealing right now, top money managers told CNBC on Thursday. The mega-cap tech stocks that make up the " Magnificent Seven " — Apple , Alphabet , Meta , Microsoft , Amazon , Nvidia and Tesla — each gained at least 48% last year. They make up about a quarter of the S & P 500's total market share. For one, software stocks such as Salesforce are adjacent to the Magnificent Seven, have done well and have a "very long trajectory," she said. A survey of North American family offices conducted by Campden Wealth and RBC found that family offices had 29.2% of their investments in private markets, which include private equity, venture capital and private debt, compared to 28.5% in publicly traded stocks. It marks the first time in the survey that family offices had more invested in private markets than public stock. "Family offices have maintained a consistent pattern of augmenting their allocations to private markets," according to the study. Family offices say private markets offer better returns over the long term without the volatility of stocks. Along with private markets, family offices are also showing increasing interest in alternative assets, including real estate and commodities.
